Cost-based pricing is obsolete
Your prices are too high and too low, if you base your pricing on your own cost. No one in his right mind believes that the customer pays us because we have managed to accumulate costs. Cost-based pricing is only applicable if you run a legal cartel or your company has decided on undifferentiated price competition. But this is old news. Most probably, you decided on value-based pricing long ago. However, have you reaped all the benefits from a value-based pricing? After all, you have to rethink everything from strategy and the packaging of your offerings to the argumentation lines eye to eye with the customer!
No consultant can do your value-based pricing
The bad news are that no consultant or financial expert can do your pricing. To be able to fix value-based prices you have to know in technical detail what you can offer the customer. But that is not enough. You also have to know what the competition can offer in order to single out your Unique Selling Properties. On top of this, you have to know your customer’s business so well, so that you can translate these USP:s into terms of real money. |
